On My Mind

There is so much to say today I have so much on my mind, that I don't know if I will put it all in one blog.

First - I heard from both sons yesterday. DS2 started his new job and loves it and the pay. His starting pay is what I was getting when I moved from NC DOJ to UG in '98, before computer burn out. Now mind you, this pay rate came because of years of experience and training in a certain program, so I am very proud of my little baby. He is in the computer field working for a hospital. Go T!!!!!

DS1 called last night and he is settled in Pa. He found some roommates and they are sharing an apartment. His job is boring (which we all knew, but knew it would not do any good telling him) and he says they treat him like 2 year olds. Hey Hon welcome to the world of work. I remember at MetLife when I was a claims approver they treated us that way. In the beginning we had older bosses and they treated us fine, but once we got up onto the floor the bosses were a lot younger and treated us like 2 years old. I think it had to do with second shift because management on the 1st shift were older. I did enjoy that job, but I digress, on to DS1. He said there is a fiber optic company in town hiring and paying great so he was thinking of applying there. I didn't think to ask of benes, because Nationwide does have insurance.

It just hit me, both boys are doing work related jobs that are similiar to what I did. Interesting!!!!

Second - Okay received a call yesterday from a political party asking for donations. You could tell this guy was reading a script but hey that was fine. Warning flags went up when he said the name, it was so fast you could not hear all of it. It was the political party and blah blah blah. I asked him to repeat it but still it was garbly gook. Well anyway, DH and I have a rigid policy when it comes to donations via the phone, we want them to send us the literature on their company before we will donate. We do not donate to companies that give only a small percentage to the companies they are soliciting for. Well naturally he started out at a very high $ amount and I said no more like between $ and $ after I read your literature. He says 'we will send you out a package of information about us and you will donate this $ amount.' 'As long as everything checks out I will.' He then transfer me to someone to confirm. Okay that sends out another warning signal. She comes on, again the garbled company name and states, 'You are agreeing to donate $.' I said no it depends on what is in the package. 'Package?' she asks. Yes I was told I would get a package, I am assuming it will give me information regarding your company and the donations. Yes, but we do not send out the package unless we get a firm commitment, she tells me. I tell her, I do not commit unless I see the package. She then asks 'will you agree to donate if the material in the package is up to your standards?' Yes, if your company checks out I will donate.

Now excuse me here, but I am under the impression that if solicitors call for donations they must send you information on their company if asked and it is not a guarantee that you will donate. I can't wait for this information to arrive, if it ever does. I think it was a total scam. If I donate I will do it directly to the party and not through a company. But they made it sound like they were the party, even though my inkling says NOT!
